What if Britain had won the war?
What would happen to the United States if the American Revolution was lost and the British killed all of its leaders and remained in control instead of being forced out?
Hypothetically, that might have happened, although the number of ‘leaders’ in the colonies grew daily in all the colonies, starting from the first British subjects who settled the colonies. There was always a sense of independence and self-reliance from the early European settlers. They passed on and taught their offspring the lessons of self-reliance. The thirst for land was a driving force for western settlements from the early Pilgrims. The further one settled from the coast, the further one felt from the monarch and the ever-presence British military.
The total number of patriot leaders has never been calculated because it is uncalculatable. Fathers, sons, and Grandfathers all joined the ranks of colonial militia paid for by the British Monarch. Together they fought in the French and Indian War. After that, the militia and minutemen were funded locally. Every town had its leaders up and down the entire coast of the Atlantic. The American Revolution would have retaken place in 50 years if they had eliminated the leaders. Or, we could be like Canada though the settlers of the 13 colonies did not agree set. Canada could and almost became the 14 colony.
